To know is to bring light to a situation; to enlighten; to understand; to make visible. There are many ways to bring the light of knowledge to bear on something.

It’s been said, "He who dies with the most toys, wins!" This is both true and not true. Some say, “Money does not matter,” but quietly and privately we fear poverty. Fear of homelessness, hunger, and a drop in social status drives many to an insane focus on money—at any cost.

One of our great problems is declaring ourselves to be a
certain religion, race, or nationality. But, are we not humans
first
and all else second? I have a friend who for over 30 years
has traveled the world getting well known people to sign a "declaration
of human unity". It's an amazing project involving the empirically
obvious. The document has been crafted over and over again - like an
act of meditation. Even the Dali Lama signed it. See

Or, a party member. This humans first stance is critical as we move away from the declared memberships and back towards the human. This movement is the goal of dialogue, as it was described in "Dialogue: The Art of Thinking Together." Empathy was, in that book, described as a power tool, or tool of power. Dialogue is a tool free of power when done correctly, but doing it correctly isn't easy. In ideological environments it is hard to say that we have human unity, or even the indivisibleness as espoused by the pledge of allegiance. The German constitution prohibits the creation of ideologies. The parties are expected to create a consensus. Our ideological environment is paralyizing and purposefully so. We need to get back to a unity here in the USA. BC, AD, BI, AI--the epochs. Fear led the way.

Fear pushes us from self actualization back to survival. Human unity needs to be recognized as a prime survial need. I'm thinking that most people see it as self actualization.
