Technology changes educational formats. When writing was invented, education changed too. We no longer had to rely solely upon our memories, as we could transfix some things onto parchment, clay, and so on. Printing, blackboards, radio, television, and now the internet all changed the way that we lectured and broadcasted knowledge.

The first three weeks of the new semester was extremely hectic for me.  After trying to register for my classes during  Telebears phase I and II, I was on the wait list for half of my classes.  I attended all the lectures and sections for my waitlisted class but still wasn't able to get into any of them.  I was very frustrated.  I do not know who to blame on, but I wonder what in the world is not measured by money.  Because UC Berkeley is a public university, the demand for classes way exceed the supply.  I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's not able to get into my pre-requisite classes for my major.

This reminds me of people who attend community colleges, which are also public institutions, get up before dawn and register for classes at 5 in the morning.

Are people who attend private universities necessarily smarter and more well-rounded than people who go to Cal? I do not think so.  However, we receive very different treatment and resources at school.  I guess it is all determined by how much money we pay.   Living in a Capitalist society, I wonder when people can become more equal in receiving education opportunities.

More equal means lowering standards for all and failing ot that level. No Child Left Behind is doing this. Now, nobody learns anything except the test. Equal doesn't mean better and equal. The world isn't equal. We have myths that help us believe in a world of equality, but its just a myth. There is no reason why education should conform to the myth. You will find equality even less as you enter the workforce. In fact, entering the workforce makes students into serfs. If you don't make the 4.0, if you actually went to school to learn, then you will not get a mentor in the corporate world, and your employer will not grow you. You will be living each and every day in an unequal world. Wage inflation is repressed while price inflation is not. Tax brackets are frozen, so the middle class can pretend they are getting ahead while paying the punative tax rate of the top 2%. Where is equality in any of this? Voters vs. Party members--sounds like communism, but its a reality, an unequal reality. Education used to be a differentiator. Now it is a commodity. As we move from a semi-global economy to a global economy, education will grant you even less distance ahead of the pack. It boils down to learn or die, and forget being taught--just learn. Treatment? Who cares?
