The first three weeks of the new semester was extremely hectic for me. After trying to register for my classes during Telebears phase I and II, I was on the wait list for half of my classes. I attended all the lectures and sections for my waitlisted class but still wasn't able to get into any of them. I was very frustrated. I do not know who to blame on, but I wonder what in the world is not measured by money. Because UC Berkeley is a public university, the demand for classes way exceed the supply. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's not able to get into my pre-requisite classes for my major.
This reminds me of people who attend community colleges, which are also public institutions, get up before dawn and register for classes at 5 in the morning.
Are people who attend private universities necessarily smarter and more well-rounded than people who go to Cal? I do not think so. However, we receive very different treatment and resources at school. I guess it is all determined by how much money we pay. Living in a Capitalist society, I wonder when people can become more equal in receiving education opportunities.
